Big Time Rush Declare Themselves 'Best Boy Band Of All Time'

But, Battle of the Boy Bands competitors also show love for 'NSYNC.

The competition continues to heat up in MTV News' Battle of the Boy Bands. Some huge favorites are falling behind as some unexpected fans come out of the woodwork to vote for their favorite groups.

At this point in the competition, Big Time Rush are well ahead of '90s R&B hitmakers All For One in their showdown, but anything can happen right up until voting closes today (April 26) at noon. So, the boys are here to tell you why you should vote for them and keep them in the race for the boy-band crown.

Highest Chart Achievement
The band, which was created for its namesake Nickelodeon show, enjoyed its strongest sales week ever when its November 2011 album, Elevate, debuted with over 70,000 in sales. However, their debut, 2010's BTR, while selling fewer copies (67,000) in its opening frame, actually enjoyed a higher chart position, debuting at an astounding #3 to Elevate's #12.

Standout Video
For sheer Backstreet nostalgia alone, it's got to be "Worldwide." The clip features the guys — Kendall Schmidt, James Maslow, Carlos Pena Jr. and Logan Henderson — in all-white outfits, crooning their hearts out ballad-style, while hanging out in an airline terminal. The homage to the Backstreet Boys' "I Want It That Way" is undeniable — and we mean that as the highest of compliments.

Defining Tune
Well, that depends who you ask. "Boyfriend," the band's first official single sent to U.S. radio, remains their strongest-performing track on the Billboard Hot 100, peaking at #72. However, the band and its fans certainly have a connection with "Music Sounds Better With U," which was co-written by the band and Ryan Tedder — yes, that Ryan Tedder, a hitmaker in his own right with OneRepublic, who is currently one of the hottest songwriters in the world after his work with Beyoncé and Adele, among many others, earned much acclaim and major sales. The song inspired the name of their 2012 "Better With U" tour.

Biggest Competition
While they are up against All 4 One in round one of the competition, they aren't really the band's biggest threat in the overall competition. Interestingly, that position is held by some close friends of the band — fellow teen dreams One Direction. Big Time Rush and One Direction toured together earlier this year, right before 1D broke out big time.

So, why should you vote for Big Time Rush? Well, the boys themselves came up with a pretty good reason: "I know the other boy bands are really awesome, but seriously, Big Time Rush is the best boy band of all time," Henderson declared.

Pena added, "Not to mention that we have the best fans. So, all you Rushers out there, we love you."

The boys themselves had little trouble zeroing in on their own personal favorite boy band. After name-checking their fandom of several boy bands, from 98 Degrees and the Backstreet Boys to Hanson, the guys went with their gut and said the answer was easy: 'NSYNC.

Facebook wants you to know it's listening when you report bullying, hate speech, identity theft, and spam, so today it launched a new Support Dashboard for tracking these reports until they're resolved. Users can check to see if their report has been reviewed, be notified of whether the offensive content was removed or left up, and learn why the decision was made. The Support Dashboard is gradually rolling out to the Account Settings menu starting today with Facebook tracking Timeline and photo flags there, and monitoring for more content types will be added soon. Cyberbullying has emerged as huge problem across the Internet and especially on Facebook, where Consumer Reports says one million children were bullied from June 2010-2011. The Support Dashboard should make users feel more confident and safe on the site because they know if they're abused and report it, their problems will actually be heard and responded to.

Snapguide Becomes First iOS App With Pinterest Integration

Snapguide today rolled out an update to its iPhone application that lets users share the "how-to" guides built on the app directly to Pinterest. App updates aren't always big deals, but this one is: It means that Snapguide is the first iOS app with Pinterest integration built-in. A Pinterest API has been highly anticipated for months, and this is the first real public glimpse of how iOS apps tied to Pinterest could look once the platform is made accessible on a wider scale (some Android apps have hacked out Pinterest integrations, such as the one made by Kodak, but the iOS market is a different beast.)

Why does Norway's Breivik invoke the Knights Templar? (+video)

Anders Behring Breivik, who killed 77 people in a twin terror attack in Norway last July, claims to be a member of a reborn 'Knights Templar.' What's the symbolism?

One of the highlights of today's testimony in the trial of Anders Behring Breivik, who is accused of the murder of 77 people during a bombing and shooting rampage in Norway, was the prosecutor's efforts to challenge Mr. Breivik's purported membership in the "Knights Templar."

Breivik claims to have helped "refound" the ancient military order as a force to fight immigration and multiculturalism in Europe. But why turn to a long-gone Christian order to symbolize his agenda today?

The Knights Templar, or "Templars," were a Christian order founded in the 10th century. Named for the Temple Mount in Jerusalem, the Templars initially protected pilgrims traveling through the Holy Lands, but eventually evolved into a powerful military force that waged war against the Muslims during the Crusades.

The Templars became so powerful, however, that European leaders grew to distrust the order. Early in the 1300s, King Philip IV of France launched a crackdown on the Templars that, with the help of Pope Clement V, eventually spread Europe-wide, destroying the order. Many members were tortured and tried for heresy by the Catholic Church.

But despite, or perhaps because of, their ancient history and sudden demise, the Templars still hold a solid grip on modern imaginations and pop culture. They are frequently depicted as the mysterious controllers of the world in books like Umberto Eco's "Foucault's Pendulum" and movies like "National Treasure." "The Da Vinci Code" and "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade" set the Templars up as secret keepers of the Holy Grail. They even appear as the enemies in video games like "Assassin's Creed."

Certainly, the organization that Breivik claims to be a member of is equally mysterious. Breivik describes the organization as "a leaderless network, made to be self-driven cells.? He said that ?For militants, [Knights Templar] is meant to be a version of Al Qaeda." He has yet to name another member of the group, claiming that to do so would risk their being caught, though he has indicated that his "English mentor" can be found in London and that a Serb "war hero" living in Liberia is among the group's ranks.

Whether or not the Templars in which Breivik claims membership are real, the name is likely meant to evoke both the mysterious nature of the original Templars and their open war against Muslim forces during the Crusades. The historical Templars' modern reputation and supposed influence makes a strong symbolic counterpoint to terrorist groups like Al Qaeda.

Monitor guest blogger James Bosworth suggested that the use of the name may also be meant to legitimize the group as a moral one.

Last July, Mr. Bosworth noted that Breivik was not the first violent criminal to invoke the Templars: A Mexican criminal gang has also adopted the name and some of the associated symbolism. But Bosworth concludes that "The Mexican Knights Templar code of conduct appears to be a false appeal to Mexico's citizens," something that could also be argued of Breivik's use of the Templar mythology. "The Knights Templar label is a failed attempt to grant historical legitimacy to a violent act that truly has no justification," Bosworth wrote.

First they got down and dirty running through the mud. Then they went glamping. This week the Real Housewives of Orange County are stepping out on the town and heading toward the bright lights of Las Vegas, Nevada.

Alexis gets a visit from Gretchen while she’s in the middle of cleaning up her own kitchen. Plus 5 right off the bat. Gretchen’s here to give feedback on Alexis’ stints on Fox 5, except she drops the bomb that Fox 5 called her first. Alexis gets her feelings hurt.

Gretchen tells Alexis it’s obvious that Alexis is nervous and says Alexis could benefit from trying to connect more with the audience. Gretchen’s advice was pretty tactfully delivered and spot-on. Plus 10.

Then, in a one-one-one, Alexis says it was killing Gretchen to be happy for her and it’s all Tamra’s fault. Minus 10, Alexis. You’re such a whiner.

Heather’s headed to an audition. She’s been an actress for “many years.” She hasn’t been working much lately because of her four children, but now that three of them are in school?  She’s seeking balance between her career self and her mother self. Plus 5, but good luck with that.

Heather feels really unsettled because she’s auditioning again and she’s opening a restaurant and she’s got kids and she’s got Terry. And an assistant to make sure everything gets done. Let’s not forget that.

Gretchen and Slade are hanging out at home folding laundry like normal people. Plus 10. Gretchen calls Alexis to invite her to the Pussycat Dolls performance on Saturday. Then she calls Tamra to complain about folding laundry.

Tamra says “If you don’t have a ring, you don’t fold a thing!” Plus 5! She invites Tamra to the performance and says she’s going to call Vicki to invite her, too. She doesn’t want Vicki to feel left out. Plus 5 for being the bigger person, Gretchen.

Minus 10, however, to Slade, for being upset that Gretchen plans to invite Vicki. Let’s keep in mind that this is partially his fault for Improv-ageddon.

Back at Casa de Heather, Terry’s having a pre-dinner pool game with their older son. It’s nice to see them just be sort of normal. Terry asks Heather how the audition went and she says it went well.

The part is a small role, but the show shoots in Canada. Heather says that everything they’ve done has been to further his career. Terry, playing Devil’s Advocate, says “Isn’t this life enough?”

Terry says, first and foremost, he wants Heather to do what makes Heather happy. If she takes a job working 15 hours a day, he’ll get two nannies and send the kids on set with her. If that’s what she wants. Plus 20.

But Heather’s not sure that’s what she wants. Dilemma, dilemma.

Alexis, meanwhile, isn’t finding quite the same level of support from Jim. She tells Jim she thinks she wants to get a coach to help her with the Fox 5 segments. He says “I don’t know where that fits into being a wife and mother. Where do you think you’re going to take this?” Minus 25.

Alexis thinks this could be a great move for her, but Jim thinks this is just another thing that affects the family. This could be a stepping stone back to needing a nanny! Jim thinks she needs to look at whether being away from the kids is worth some more money that he says they don’t even need. He’s losing more points for being such a douche. Minus 10.

Vicki’s decided to go to Las Vegas for Gretchen’s Pussycat Dolls performance. She’s using Brianna’s cancer-free diagnosis (again) as her reasoning for going. She’s putting things behind her. She realizes that she and Gretchen both owe each other apologies and she’s willing to give hers when the time is right. Plus 5.

Gretchen and Slade are in Vegas for the Pussycat Dolls performance. Her voice still isn’t 100 percent and she’s nervous.

Tamra, Vicki, Heather, and their men arrive in Vegas and spend their time in the stretch limo bashing Alexis and trying to figure out what Jim does for a living. “He says he’s an entrepreneur,” someone says. “Aren’t we all?” someone else replies. “I’m a doctor,” deadpans Terry. Plus 5.

Gretchen only has one rehearsal before the live show. It seems she’s got the choreography down but the tone and melody escape her. They run screaming away from her, in fact. Slade knows she’s going to be really, really good when it’s go-time. But right now, she’s struggling. And the Pussycat Dolls know it.

The Housewives and their men are hanging out like VIPs and Vicki throws Gretchen for a loop by being nice to her. To calm herself, Gretchen talks about Tamra’s small boobs. Then Gretchen works out her nerves by practically hyperventilating to the other women about how hard performing is and how nervous she is.

And then Vicki wishes Slade a happy birthday and says in a one-on-one that her motto is “Be nice to people. It confuses them.” Which is weird because I could’ve sworn Vicki wasn’t on board with this when Tamra said that’s what her plan was now that she and Gretchen are friends again. Side-eye to you, Vicki.

Alexis and Jim arrive in Vegas and Alexis has hired a make-up artist to cover up the bruises from her “sinus surgery.” Minus 5.

Jim comes into the bathroom while the make-up artist is working and says, multiple times, that the make-up is too dark. And it is. It’s at least four layers thick. She washes it off and saves the day. Except she kind of does look like a drag queen like Tamra says in a one-on-one. 

Brooks creeps the whole table out by talking about the daily affirmations he sends to Vicki. I’m not even sure what he said even means. Something about man loves woman and woman loves man and I love you and Minus 10 for being weird.

Gretchen’s getting ready for her performance as the Pussycat Dolls Burlesque Saloon fills up. Alexis goes to find Gretchen to pray with Gretchen before the performance. Gretchen’s dressed like a stripper and Alexis’ boobs are hanging out and there’s something about praying right now that just seems a little weird.

But we’ll have to wait until next week to see if Alexis’ prayers for Gretchen’s performance are answered.
