Rodgers, Finley lead Packers over Bears - Fantasy Sports

By ANDREW SELIGMAN, AP Sports Writer

CHICAGO (AP)?? Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers celebrated another win at Soldier Field.

Rodgers threw for 297 yards, including three touchdown passes to Jermichael Finley, and the Packers shut down Jay Cutler and the Chicago Bears on the way to an 27-17 victory Sunday.

The stakes weren't as high as the previous meeting, when the Packers left Chicago's home field celebrating the NFC title on the way to the championship. Even so, they gave the Bears (1-2) more headaches.

Rodgers led the charge, completing 28 of 38 passes. He threw his first interception of the season, when Brian Urlacher picked him off with the Packers leading 27-17 in the fourth quarter.

The Bears took over at their own 45, but two penalties - holding by Chris Spencer and unnecessary roughness on Devin Hester for a confrontation with Sam Shields - ended any shot they had at a comeback.

Rodgers hit Finley with a 6-yard TD on the game's opening drive, a 7-yarder early in the second quarter that made it 14-0 and a 10-yarder that gave the Packers (3-0) a commanding 27-10 lead early in the fourth.

Greg Jennings caught nine passes for 119 yards, while Finley finished with seven receptions and 85 yards. Ryan Grant ran for 92, and Morgan Burnett intercepted Cutler twice on passes intended for Roy Williams to help the Packers remain unbeaten.

For the Bears, it was simply a brutal performance.

Their quarterback struggled in a big way and the running game was nonexistent again as Chicago (1-2) dropped its second straight game after an impressive win over Atlanta.

The Bears managed just 13 yards rushing on 12 attempts, after running 52 pass plays and handing it off 11 times last week against New Orleans. Things were so bad that fans cheered sarcastically when Matt Forte ran for 3 yards early in the third, and it wasn't like Cutler was lighting things up, either.

He was 21 of 37 with two touchdowns and two interceptions and threw six straight incompletions to start the second half against a defense that allowed Drew Brees and Cam Newton to throw for more than 400. Worse, the Packers were without Pro Bowl safety Nick Collins, who suffered a season-ending neck injury the previous week.

Even so, Cutler couldn't take advantage.

About the only good news for him was he stayed healthy this time, after spending most of the second half of that NFC title game on the sideline with a knee injury while current and former players questioned his toughness on Twitter.

While Cutler struggled, it wasn't a good game either for Williams. He was targeted four times and did not catch a pass after sitting out a game with a groin injury.

It was a better day for Johnny Knox, who caught four passes for 84 yards, but the Packers clearly controlled this one.

Adam Scott shoots 65 to lead Tour Championship

Luke Donald, of England, hits from the sand on the 18th green during the second round of the Tour Championship golf tournament at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta on Friday, Sept. 23, 2011. (AP Photo/Rainier Ehrhardt)

(AP) ? Adam Scott placed a dozen tees in a circle, 4 feet from the cup, trying to make them all as caddie Steve Williams followed behind him and replaced the golf balls after each putt. The circle was expanded to 6 feet, then 10 feet.

"I'm just trying to make as many as I can," Scott said on the eve of the Tour Championship.

Tee to green, he feels as though his game has rarely been better. The Australian switched to the long putter at the Match Play Championship at the end of February, and he has seen enough improvement to win a World Golf Championship at Firestone. There are still a few bad days ? and bad weeks, as he showed last week at Cog Hill.

The practice sure seemed to pay off Friday at East Lake. Right when it looked as though he were losing ground, Scott ran off five birdies in a six-hole stretch, most of them from that distance he had been practicing, one of them a 35-footer on the eighth.

It led to a 5-under 65 and gave him a one-shot lead over K.J. Choi going into a week in which 14 players were separated by five shots. It also gave him as much confidence about the last two rounds as his win at East Lake five years ago.

"Just lost a little confidence last week reading the greens," Scott said. "I never got anything started on line that looked like going in, and even a couple of putts yesterday and today were good putts that weren't quite on line. But today was a lot better. That's a positive thing going into the week, because it was a much freer approach to putting."

Scott was at 8-under 132, alone atop a crowded leaderboard.

Jason Day, who played on a steamy Friday afternoon with Scott, had a 67 and was two shots behind, along with Luke Donald, the world's No. 1 player who had a 68 and still might be the guy to beat for the $10 million FedEx Cup.

Bubba Watson, who still isn't sure East Lake is a good fit for his game, managed the low score of the round with a 64. That put him at 5-under 135 along with Hunter Mahan and a pair of U.S. hopefuls for the Presidents Cup, Bill Haas and PGA champion Keegan Bradley.

Another American who is desperate to go to Royal Melbourne ? Brandt Snedeker ? was at 3-under 137, along with Matt Kuchar.

Kuchar and Donald are in the top five of the FedEx Cup, meaning they only have to win the Tour Championship to collect the biggest payoff in golf.

Scott is at No. 19. If the leaderboard looks Sunday exactly how it did on Friday, Scott would capture the FedEx Cup because the top two players on the points list ? Webb Simpson and Dustin Johnson ? were out of the top 18 and the others weren't high enough.

It's a lot of math ? not to mention golf ? between now and then, although Scott still has a chance.

"I've got to win, and I imagine Webb must have to finish pretty low to give me a chance," Scott said of the FedEx Cup. "That's all I know. I just figured if I win this week, I'll be happy no matter what. I'll finish what I think has been a really good season."

Bradley, who came into the day with a two-shot lead, bogeyed two of his first five holes and never quite recovered in his round of 71. Scott, who won the Tour Championship at East Lake in 2006 the year before the FedEx Cup was created, also had a scrappy start with three bogeys on the opening six holes.

"I was pretty annoyed at myself, but I'm playing too good to let myself flip away at the moment," he said.

Scott proved that by running off four straight birdies, then adding another on No. 12 with a deft shot from a fairway bunker to about 8 feet that put him ahead of Day, who only six holes earlier had been five shots clear of Scott.

The two Australians were paired together in the final round of the Masters and tied for second, and they went at it again in the second round at East Lake.

"I'm in front and then he comes back, and then he's in front and I come back," Day said. "It does fire you up because everyone wants to win it, and you just want to go out there and play the best you can."

Quietly lurking, as usual, is Donald.

With two days remaining, there is no clear favorite for the FedEx Cup ? or for the Tour Championship.

"You get a bunch of good players together, and these things are going to unfold like this," Scott said. "I think everyone is just enjoying being here and trying to do the best they can, because there's a lot at stake, obviously."

Judge more than doubles expenses Casey Anthony must pay (Reuters)

ORLANDO, Fla (Reuters) ? A judge on Friday raised to $217,500 the total bill Casey Anthony must pay to compensate law enforcement agencies for lying in 2008 about the fate of her 2-year-old daughter Caylee.

Anthony was acquitted in July of murdering Caylee but found guilty of sending investigators on an expensive wild goose chase for a nanny that Anthony claimed kidnapped Caylee.

At Anthony's murder trial, her lawyer told jurors that Caylee drowned in the family's backyard pool.

Earlier in September, Judge Belvin Perry ordered Anthony to pay expenses totaling $97,676, which were documented by several law enforcement agencies in the search for Caylee and a nanny.

Perry asked the lead investigative agency, the Orange County Sheriff's Office, to provide more detail about its claim. The new order adds $119,822 to Anthony's bill for the sheriff's expenses based on its detailed claim.

Anthony currently is serving a one-year probation ordered after pleading guilty in 2010 to check fraud charges that grew out of the murder investigation.

Perry kept her exact whereabouts in Florida secret based on threats to her life and widespread public indignation at the not guilty verdicts on the murder charges.

Finest Aerobics Activities to shed pounds

What are the best cardio exercises to lose weight? First off, I don?t necessarily feel that any one exercise is best. You can find a wide assortment of cardio exercises to lose weight, but the very best is ultimately the one that you simply appreciate performing consistently, on a regular basis. Sure, some of the exercises below will burn much more calories than others, but the most important factor to me is intensity. In spite of its lots of advantages, you won?t see walking listed below due to the fact it is not probably the most effective approach to lose weight given the lack of intensity. In no certain order, here are some of the very best cardio exercises to lose weight.

Sprinting: good old fashion outdoor sprints where you exert as much energy as you can. For an increased challenge, perform beach sprints where the instability of the sand will really work your muscles. If that?s too simple, start running up hills.

Jump Rope: a terrific approach to get your heart pumping while enhancing coordination. When you get the coordination down, you may perform a seriously intense workout.

Kickboxing: take out your aggression on a punching bag. In addition to getting a great cardiovascular workout, you?ll most likely increase muscle tone from the resistance the bag gives. You?re also most likely to boost core strength from twisting motions involved in punching and kicking.

Roller Skating / Ice Skating / Cross Country Skiing: uncomplicated outdoor activities that may possibly not appear like a lot but can really get you winded. Roller skating and ice skating may perhaps in fact trump sprinting because of the side to side motion needed to get you going. Cross country skiing is a great approach to add a little extra focus on your arms.

Rowing Machine: this is the most recent toy I?ve been playing with and wow is it tough. It?s a full body workout so you?ll probably burn much more calories here than in some other exercises. You?ll have to utilize your legs to push off while your back and arms pull the mechanical rowing arms. Moreover, there?s a resistance component involved so you?ll create muscle while burning fat.

Swimming: in the event you have access to a pool, swimming is usually an extremely powerful method to lose weight. The added bonus is that it can be low impact. In contrast to sprinting where your knees may possibly take a pounding, swimming entails a nice smooth motion while still giving your lungs a workout.

Biking: I commonly use biking as part of a steady state routine, but you?ll be able to do some intense intervals also. An upright bike is more productive than a recumbent bike for this type of training.

Stepper: fundamentally like climbing hills/stairs. Enough said.

Elliptical: some folks will argue that you can?t perform an intense workout on an elliptical. I?d say it depends on the type of elliptical. Personally, I have a rear drive elliptical that I can immediately accelerate to sprinting speed on. Nonetheless, I?ve tried front drive ellipticals that only permit me to perform steady state cardio. This is an additional superior low impact physical exercise.

Treadmill: I?m not a big fan of the treadmill, but a great deal of persons can perform intense intervals by using one. I just do not like the idea of trying to choose an proper speed that may allow me to sprint but not fall off. That being said, just like running, you?ll burn calories here once you could perform an adequately intense workout.

Resistance Training: studies have shown that resistance training actually burns a lot more calories than cardio. The challenge is that most cardio exercises might be performed longer than resistance training exercises. This type of training could include weight lifting, bodyweight exercises, circuit training, or even kettlebells.

Classes: not actually an exercise per say, but things like spinning, step aerobics, Zoomba along with other group activities involve some difficult, but enjoyable workouts.

Yoga: I do not have sufficient expertise with yoga to supply an opinion, but I?ve read about forms of yoga that can be fairly intense.

I hope that these exercises supply sufficient assortment to assist you craft your own workout. I also understand that most people don?t appreciate cardio but hope that no less than one of these exercises is appealing enough for you to perform frequently. That kind of consistent, intense workout is what will make these the best cardio exercises to lose weight.

In the event you?d like to learn about cardio exercises to lose weight, come pay a visit to my web page where I deliver exercise and diet techniques to help you shed pounds and obtain a lean physical appearance. Start getting into outstanding shape now!

U.S. border police shoot man wielding replica pistol (Reuters)

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) ? U.S. border police shot and wounded a man who brandished a replica pistol after being detained for barging through a border crossing from Tijuana, Mexico to San Diego, California, authorities said on Friday.

The unidentified man approached a pedestrian booth at the San Ysidro port of entry late on Thursday afternoon, and attempted to walk through to California without being fully processed, the San Diego Police Department said in a news release.

After inspectors apprehended the man and escorted him behind a turnstile at the crossing, he reached into his waistband and pulled out a chrome-finished replica handgun, which he raised above his head.

"Several people reported hearing the handgun making a noise consistent with a gunshot," the police said in a news release.

"In response, two Customs and Border Protection officers fired at the suspect," it added.

The man was rushed to a hospital trauma center, where he underwent surgery for his injuries. His condition was not immediately known on Friday.

The San Diego Police Department's Homicide Unit is investigating the use of force in this incident, while the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency are weighing bringing criminal charges against the injured man.

A spokeswoman for U.S. Customs and Border Protection agency in San Diego said officials closed the pedestrian facility to travelers after the shooting to allow detectives to complete their investigation.

They later opened two vehicle lanes at the port to process pedestrians. The facility was open as normal on Friday.

dockBoss+ adapter brings iOS speaker dock compatibility to Android, BlackBerry and WP7 handsets*

A while back, you probably splurged for that insert-iPod-sound-system-here thinking you'd get some pretty good mileage out of it. If you also jumped ship at some point along the way (read: switched to Android), CableJive can help keep your bookshelf system cranking for a little while longer. The dockBoss+ adapter features micro-USB and audio plugs opposite a 30-pin connector, the latter of which fits nicely in one of the eight quadrillion iOS-compatible sound systems currently on the market. Now, you can port that valuable charging action to your existing handset -- plus, the accessory also features a built-in charge converter for FireWire-enabled cables and docking stations, if needed. Not only that, but the dockBoss+ will also work in tandem with your iOS-centric car or home stereo -- unless you're still clinging to the factory head unit in your VW Beetle... bummer. Those looking to pick one up can do so starting September 28th for $30; a handful of Lincolns is much easier on the ol' wallet than a brand new one of these, that's for sure.

*Assuming, of course, that you're cool with a few cables hanging out, and that your handset actually uses micro-USB.

[Thanks, Gregor]

UN to target corrupt Somalis with new sanctions

(AP) ? Corrupt Somali politicians could face travel bans and have their foreign assets frozen under tough new United Nations sanctions, a U.N. official said Tuesday, a move that analysts said could also help get desperately needed food aid to the country's growing number of famine victims.

A team of eight investigators is due to begin work this week. It's the first time senior Somali politicians could face consequences for corruption in the 20 years since the country dissolved into civil war. The country's justice system has virtually stopped functioning and there has been no system to hold politicians in the famine-struck Horn of Africa nation to account.

"Corruption has been identified as one of the main obstacles to the peace process," said Matt Bryden, who heads the U.N. arms monitoring group on Somalia, which provides an annual report to the U.N. Security Council. "This sends a clear signal that corruption and political obstruction will no longer be tolerated."

The monitoring group was set up 10 years after an arms embargo was imposed on Somalia in 1992, when hundreds of thousands were dying from famine and the country was in the grip of a clan-based civil war. The group's mandate was to report anyone selling weapons to fuel the conflict. In 2008, the U.N. decided it should be able to punish violators by imposing sanctions that include travel bans and freezes on assets such as bank accounts and property.

The list of possible sanctions was expanded the same year to include anyone obstructing access to humanitarian aid. That's a huge problem in Somalia, where Islamist militant groups have denied many aid agencies access to territory they control and militias in areas controlled by the U.N.-backed government steal and sell food.

In July, the sanctions mandate was expanded again to include corruption and those blocking the peace process. The new mandate came at the same month famine was declared in parts of the country.

Tens of thousands of people are estimated to have died and the U.N. says 750,000 are at imminent risk of starvation. Now, Bryden said, anyone could be sanctioned for threatening peace and security or for blocking or stealing humanitarian aid or government funds.

"Our investigations will help the sanctions committee ensure that violators are held accountable," he said. "These sanctions are most effective against those with an international profile ? those with foreign passports, with foreign bank accounts, and those who travel."

On the potholed streets and among the bullet-riddled buildings in the capital, Mogadishu, there's little to show for the tens of millions of dollars donated to the Somali government over the past two years. The mayor has put up a few streetlights and international aid agencies fund a few trash collections. But schools, hospitals and roads are in a state of advanced decay.

Somalia has the world's highest child mortality rate. Nearly one in five children will die before their 5th birthday. More than 70 percent of Somalis don't have clean water and the country is regularly rated the most corrupt in the world by international watchdog Transparency International.

The poor performance of the government is one reason why the population turned to Islamist militias in the first place. But if the threat of sanctions helps improve their performance, an analyst said, it could help win the government support.

"This new mandate has the potential to be very useful," said Ken Menkhaus, a political science professor who specializes in Somalia at North Carolina's Davidson College. "What the Security Council had in mind was to make the (government) more accountable and more legitimate in the eyes of the Somali people."

It could also help force through humanitarian aid to those who need it, he said. Around 200,000 of the 750,000 at risk of starvation live in government-held areas, he said, but "we are having problems making sure aid is getting through to them because of corruption and interference and diversion."

The Somali government did not respond to requests for comment. It recently proposed a joint watchdog with donors to track funding and corruption but the agency has not yet been set up. Many Somali ministers have dual nationality or assets abroad. The new prime minister, defense minister and minister of finance are all American citizens. Other Cabinet members are British or Canadian passport holders.

AP Enterprise: GOP not always against entitlements (AP)

WASHINGTON ? It's a massive health care entitlement with unfunded future costs over $7 trillion. Many conservatives are still upset at the way it was rammed through Congress.

But when the Republican presidential candidates were asked last week asked if they would repeal the Medicare drug benefit, they said no way. After all, Republicans created it.

Republicans want to pull the plug on the health care overhaul they call "Obamacare," but that law is arguably less a deficit driver than the Medicare drug plan they are defending.

Debt and deficit are the focus of the Republican Party as the 2012 presidential campaign moves through the nominating process and looks ahead to the general election. Yet the reluctance of GOP candidates to renounce a costly entitlement program that voters like shows how politics can come into play when critiquing the federal ledger.

Passed by a GOP-led Congress in 2003 under President George W. Bush, the prescription program is immensely popular with older people, faithful voters who lately have been trending Republican.

Medicare recipients pay only one-fourth of the cost of the drug benefit. Because there's no dedicated tax to support the program, the other three-fourths comes from the government's general fund. That's the same leaky pot used for defense, law enforcement, education and other priorities. It's regularly refilled with borrowed dollars that balloon the deficit.

Although the health care law costs far more than the drug benefit, it's paid for, at least on paper. It includes unpopular Medicare cuts as well as tax increases on insurers, drug and medical device companies, upper-income people, and even indoor tanning devotees.

Asked last week at the Tea Party debate if they would repeal the prescription program, GOP candidates would hear nothing of it.

Texas Gov. Rick Perry said he would not, even though he said he's concerned about its cost. Cracking down on waste and fraud might be the answer, he suggested.

"I wouldn't repeal it," said former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney. He said he would restructure Medicare, but not for those now in the program or nearing retirement. The re-engineering supported by House Republicans this year and praised by Romney at the time would give future retirees a voucher-like payment to buy insurance from a range of private plans.

Texas Rep. Ron Paul noted that he'd voted against the prescription benefit, but said repeal "sure wouldn't be on my high list. I would find a lot of cuts (in) a lot of other places."

Budget hawks scoff.

"I'm an equal opportunity critic here," said David Walker, a former head of the congressional watchdog agency. "I think the Republicans were irresponsible for passing the Medicare prescription program in 2003 and I think the Democrats were irresponsible for passing" Obama's health overhaul.

As comptroller general of the Government Accountability Office for most of the past decade, Walker used his position to call attention to the nation's long-term budget problems at a time when the debt wasn't front-page news. He now leads the Comeback America Initiative, a nonpartisan group promoting fiscal responsibility.

"There was no attempt to offset the cost of the Medicare prescription bill," Walker said. "It's fair to say that at least there was an attempt to pay" for the health law through a mix of spending cuts and tax increases.

How big is the hole left by the prescription program? Over the next 75 years, its $7.5 trillion "unfunded obligation" exceeds the $6.7 trillion gap attributable to Social Security.

"When they were designing the new health care law, the experience of the Medicare prescription bill was very much in their minds," said Robert Bixby, executive director of the Concord Coalition, a nonpartisan group advocating fiscal discipline. "They didn't want to have another unfunded expansion."

Experts can debate whether future Congresses will suspend Obama's Medicare cuts and whether the long-range cost of extending coverage to more than 30 million uninsured will outpace the revenue to pay for it.

As the reactions of the GOP candidates at the debate demonstrated, no one is seriously considering repeal of the prescription program.

Thanks to taxpayers, about 90 percent of older people now have affordable access to medications that help keep them out of the hospital. Roughly two-thirds of those are enrolled in Medicare's benefit; many others are in former employers' prescription plans.

Ironically, repealing Obama's overhaul would take away the most important improvement to the program since it was created. Obama's law gradually eliminates the dreaded coverage gap known as the doughnut hole. Millions of people will each save thousands of dollars as a result.

Republicans like to point out that the cost of the prescription program is well below original estimates. They attribute that to competition among the private insurers providing the benefit.

While competition is part of the story, experts say it's not the only reason. The shift to cheaper generic drugs among people of all ages has been a powerful contributor. That may not last forever. The trustees who oversee Medicare's finances warn in their latest report that spending on drugs will rise more rapidly in the future.

Said Walker: "Basically what's happening is we're mortgaging the future of our children and grandchildren, and borrowing the money from China."

NASA announces two game-changing space technology projects

ScienceDaily (Sep. 19, 2011) ? NASA has selected two game-changing space technology projects for development. The selections are part of the agency's efforts to pursue revolutionary technology required for future missions, while proving the capabilities and lowering the cost of government and commercial space activities.

"NASA's Game Changing Technology Development program uses a rolling selection process to mature new, potentially transformative technologies from low to moderate technology readiness levels -- from the edge of reality to a test article ready for the rigors of the lab," said Space Technology Director Michael Gazarik at NASA Headquarters in Washington. "These two new projects are just the beginning. Space Technology is making investments in critical technology areas that will enable NASA's future missions, while benefiting the American aerospace community."

The "Ride the Light" concept seeks to provide external power on demand for aerospace vehicles and other applications. The concept uses beamed power and propulsion produced by commercially available power sources such as lasers and microwave energy. The project will attempt to develop a low-cost, modular power beaming capability and explore multiple technologies to function as receiving elements of the beamed power.

This combination of technologies could be applied to space propulsion, performance and endurance of unpiloted aerial vehicles or ground-to-ground power beaming applications. Development of such capabilities fulfills NASA's strategic goal of developing high payoff technology and enabling missions otherwise unachievable with today's technology.

NASA has awarded approximately $3 million for concept studies to multiple companies during this first phase of the Ride the Light project. Systems engineering and analysis during this first phase of the Ride the Light project will be done by Teledyne Brown Engineering in Huntsville, Ala.; Aerojet in Redmond, Wash.; ATK in Ronkonkoma, N.Y.; Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh; NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, Calif.; and Teledyne Scientific, Boeing, and the Aerospace Corp., all located in Los Angeles. Following these studies, NASA expects to make an implementation decision in 2013.

NASA also has selected Amprius Inc. of Menlo Park, Calif., to pursue development of a prototype battery that could be used for future agency missions. Amprius is teaming with JPL and NASA's Glenn Research Center in Cleveland on the project, with an estimated value of $710,000 for one year of development.

The Amprius project will focus on the material optimization of silicon anodes and electrolyte formulation to meet the agency's low-temperature energy requirements. Amprius developed a unique ultra-high capacity silicon anode for lithium ion batteries that will enable NASA to dramatically improve the specific energy of mission critical rechargeable batteries. NASA requirements are unique because of the extremely low temperatures encountered in space.

These awards are being made through NASA's Game Changing Development Program. For more information about the program and the agency's Space Technology Program, visit: http://www.nasa.gov/oct

Family Holidays For Recreation And Enjoyment | home and family ...

By Lauren Black

Holidays are wonderful days to enjoy with the family. Whenever you get stressed out in work, you can always take a break and do something recreational with your beloved people. Family holidays and bonding are significant since it gives every one the opportunity to enjoy, relax, and at the same time catch up with each other especially when there are members who really are so busy with their respective jobs.

Holidays are good days for those who work really hard in their career. This is the best time to unwind, relax, and enjoy. Planning out the details for your get away would not be so stressing when you do this one ahead. You can truly enjoy what you have planned.

You can plan out your holiday vacation ahead and this would lessen your worries later on. When you only have less time to prepare, you get more obligations. This is why you need to plan out everything ahead or else it will add up to your very busy schedule. This is helpful especially if you want something like parties at home and you do have guests that you invite like relatives and friends.

Also, when you plan it out just night before the event, you will be stressed out and will experience fatigue. You better do the preparations ahead of time because if you rush everything, the result will most likely be not what you wish for.

The financial aspect could really stress you out unless you own millions of bucks. You also need to prepare this so that you could fully enjoy the day without reservations on your pocket since you already have planned all the details including the possible amount that will be spent.

Family outings could really be exciting especially to your children. You can only enjoy this one once you have prepared well for this. The stress that you got from work could really be eliminated.

Family holidays can become very fun when you have prepared all the details. No matter how simple it would be, like picnics, and beach outings, you still need to plan ahead in order to miss out not a single detail. Aside from this, you have to plan out the expenses so that you will stick in with your budget. If you do all these, you would really enjoy your vacation. You will not worry even a bit and you can truly enjoy the day with your beloved people and much more you would enjoy it for yourself.

How to Collaborate with Children Regarding Internet Safety | Self ...

How to Collaborate with Children Regarding Internet Safety

COLLABORATION

One of the best approaches to keeping kids safe online is to work with them in a collaborative effort. Communication involves interaction. Begin by talking to your child about Internet safety. Follow up with questions and concerns that your child may have.

Of course, the process of communication will vary according to the child?s age. Working together to form viable solutions to real problems is the ideal. The child or teen should feel that she has choice and that she has some control over the situation.

RULES

It is important to present the development of rules in a collaborative fashion with your child. Simply laying down the law with no reasoning behind the rules can work against your efforts in some cases. If children have a clear understanding of the rules and their development, they are more likely to follow through.

When you establish rules together the child has some feeling of control. He is an active participant in the decision-making process. Following are some general rules to consider when developing home computer use regulations for the family to share.

1. Never give out personal information including phone numbers, addressees, real names and locations.
2. Do not give out any passwords even to your best friends.
3. Private chat rooms are off limits.
4. Use a screen names for different sites. Change the name according to the site you are using.
5. Search through bookmarked pages first. If you need to browse the Internet, ask.
6. Always tell parents, caregivers or a trusted adult about disturbing or anonymous correspondences.
7. Do not meet anyone you encounter online in person. Ever.

The rules in your home will vary according to your child?s specific needs. It is important to remember to develop these rules together rather than simple writing them down and placing them next to the computer station. These items should be discussed and explored in collaboration.

WRITTEN AND VERBAL AGREEMENTS

Parents may want to write a contract for their child to sign. This contract should include the specific rules and regulations of computer use. The child can read the document and explain what it means briefly before signing it. This can be an effective approach since it is so concrete.

Verbal agreements are not tangible. They may be easily forgotten and the child can easily fall into bad habits. Presenting a document that is created in collaboration is far more effective than spoken agreements.

ESTABLISHING A SCHEDULE

The Internet can be very addictive and extremely distracting. Using bookmarks for favorite websites is a fantastic way to ensure that the child isn?t surfing the Web too much. Scheduling is another great approach to proper time management on the computer.

There are countless benefits to schedules including the development of valuable time management skills and self control. Like rules, schedules can be created in a collaborative effort. The child or teen can clearly see how much time is allotted for each particular activity.

You may be surprised by how willing a child is to work with a schedule. Some love to help create a calendar of visual timetable. Parents can always encourage their child to adhere to the schedule by offering an extra hour or two of free time every so often.

PRIVACY

Privacy is a crucial issue to many children and teenagers. There is a balance that needs to be considered, especially as the child grows older. Teenagers are caught in a frenzy of needing independence while still depending on their parents for support and guidance. Not enough supervision can be detrimental. Too much supervision can be devastating.

Encourage your child to communicate his thoughts and concerns with you. Many teens and children avoid inappropriate online activity because they are afraid of being banned from the Internet. Parents can help their children realize that truth and clear communication will not result in privileges being taken away.

PERSONAL JOURNALS AND DIARIES

Influence your child to keep private thoughts in a diary or journal. The child can choose her own book equipped with a lock and key. Some newer journals are electronic, requiring voice activation to open. This is a wonderful approach to creating a privacy balance. It also works to help children realize that very personal thoughts and ideas belong in the home, not on the Internet.

US Politics | 2012 Election - AMERICAblog News: Mayor Bloomberg ...

He may be right. CNN:

"You have a lot of kids graduating college, [who] can't find jobs," said Bloomberg, during his weekly radio show on Friday. "That's what happened in Cairo. That's what happened in Madrid. You don't want those kinds of riots here."

That was the mayor's response when asked about the poverty rate, which rose to 15.1% in 2010, its highest level since 1993, according to census data released Tuesday. About 46.2 million people are now living in poverty, 2.6 million more than last year.

"The public is not happy," he said. "The public knows there is something wrong in this country, and there is. The bottom line is that they're upset."

NOTE FROM JOHN: In this country, I could see the Teabaggers being those more likely to riot. At their core they're simply conservative Republicans. And at THEIR core, far-right Republicans don't really like our democracy, its institutions, its checks and balances. They don't believe in playing the game called civil society, they try to rig the game - and if that fails, they stage their own little riots, American style (i.e., no violence, just the yelling), like they did during Bush v Gore and like they did in August 2009 disrupting the health care town halls.

Would the Teabaggers eventually go violent? ?It's hard to say no, when you're dealing with people who literally think a socialist (read: Soviet communist) is the current commander in chief of our military. ?If that were really true, if a Soviet spy had secretly taken over our government, are you telling me people would still forego violence? ?Not a chance. ?That's why extremist GOP rhetoric is so dangerous during the best of times. ?And these are not the best of times.

LG Marquee steps out in leaked press shot, coming this October?

It looks like the LG Marquee's gearing up for its coming out party. We first caught wind of the Optimus Black clone when it surfaced in blurrycam form at a Radio Shack briefing, running what appeared to be vanilla Android, and branded for the Now Network. Well, thanks to a leaked press shot over on PocketNow, we can clearly see that the device is, indeed, sporting a lightly-skinned version of the pure Gingerbread experience, with Sprint ID replacing the browser in the phone's launcher. Cosmetically, you'll also notice the new grey-colored chassis has a striped band sweeping down the battery cover, although the camera placement remains similar to its European cousin. Aside from that, the only other notable difference is in the design and arrangement of the capacitive buttons. The specs seem to fall line with its elder LG stablemate, as the handset's purported to pack a single-core 1GHz processor, 5 megapixel camera and 4-inch display. The only question that remains is whether you're willing to forgo impending beastliness for elegance this October when it's rumored to launch.
