Off Broadway vets Deirdre O'Connell, Reed Birney and Tracee Chimo and "The Importance of Being Earnest" star Santino Fontana have picked up thesping awards from the Actors' Equity Foundation. O'Connell and Birney each scored the Richard Seff Award for veteran character actors in supporting roles. O'Connell nabbed hers for her recent stint in the Public Theater staging of Lisa Kron's "In the Wake," while Birney ("Blasted") took his for stints in Playwrights Horizons' "A Small Fire" and the Roundabout's "Tigers Be Still." Chimo and Fontana, meanwhile, each scored the Clarence Derwent Award for most promising performer. Chimo's recent Off Broadway credits include Second Stage's "Bachelorette," while Fontana has appeared in Rialto outings "Brighton Beach Memoirs" and "Billy Elliot," among others. Chimo, O'Connell and Birney all appeared together in Playwrights Horizons' 2009 preem of "Circle Mirror Transformation." All four kudo recipients will receive their awards at a June 14 meeting of the Eastern Regional Board of thesps union Actors' Equity.
