Potato Salad (Photos):Potato salad is a dish of potatoes, versions of which differ in different regions and countries. Although called a salad, usually considered a side dish, as it usually accompanies the main dish.
Potato salad is often served with barbecue, grilled meats, hot dogs, fried chicken, hamburgers and cold sandwiches. It is considered a random rate, and as such are usually served at picnics, barbecues in the open air, and other random events and meals.
This is a popular menu choice of cooks preparing food for large numbers of people because it is easy to make in large quantities, it can be prepared in advance and refrigerated until needed, and require inexpensive ingredients.
Types
General version of potato salad, include:
* Salad with new potatoes cooked in their jackets and left whole (skin on)
* More potatoes cooked in their skins, then peeled and chopped
* Salad with mayonnaise, Miracle Whip, sour cream or milk sauce
* Salad with vinegar
* Salad with bacon, anchovies, or mustard.
* Salad with fresh herbs and fennel sauce, and / or cucumbers, capers and other spices.
* Salad with raw onions, cooked onions or pickled onions.
* Salad with tomatoes and green beans.
* Salad with hard-boiled eggs (a combination of potato salad and egg salad)
* Salad with ham, pickles, corn, boiled egg and tomato (known in France as Salade piemontaise)
* Salad with orange slices, Worcestershire sauce, bacon and green onions.
* Waldorf salad with potatoes, apples, celery, walnuts, mayonnaise
Different versions of potato salad served at different temperatures. Most potato salads are served at room temperature, although the southern German version can be served warm as well. In the United States and North German potato salad is usually served chilled and cooling demand in advance.
Germany
German ?Kartoffelsalat? is a popular option, which is usually obtained with vinegar instead of mayo, and bacon bits and served warm. Potato salad from northern Germany, however, usually based on mayonnaise and very similar to its counterpart U.S.
Czech Republic and Slovakia
In the Czech Republic and Slovakia, the potato salad is a traditional Christmas meal. It comes as a garnish for grilled fish (mostly carp), or a certain type of white sausage that is served dinner on Christmas Eve. Each family maintains its own recipe. This most often includes potatoes, mayonnaise, eggs and onions. Some families also use carrots, peas, pickles, celery, mustard, sausage and other ingredients.
